General
Packet Radio Service (GPRS) enabled networks offer
'always-on', higher capacity,
Internet-based content and packet-based
data services. This enables services such as colour
Internet browsing, e-mail on the move,
powerful visual communications, multimedia messages and
location-based services.
The GSM
platform is a hugely successful wireless technology and an
unprecedented story of global achievement. In less than.ten years
since the first GSM network was commercially launched, it became
the world’s leading and fastest growing mobile standard, spanning
over 170 countries. Today, GSM
technology is in use by more than one in ten of the world’s
population and growth continues to soar with the number of
subscribers worldwide expected to surpass
one billion by the end of 2003.
The
progress hasn’t stopped there. The GSM platform is living, growing
and evolving and already offers an expanded and feature-rich
‘family’ of voice and data enabling services.
GSM–The
Wireless Evolution is achieved through the GSM family of wireless
communication platforms. The GSM family consists of today’s GSM,
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Enhanced Data rates for GSM
Evolution (EDGE) and third
generation GSM services (3GSM*).
Together
the GSM family provides a flexible platform and an evolutionary
path that enables network operators to offer a potentially
limitless range of revenue generating services, meeting the
ever-growing needs of their customers worldwide.
The defined
and progressive roadmap of the GSM family means network operators
worldwide can confidently plan their future and effectively expand
and match their
range of
services to address the needs of the corporate and consumer
markets.
Services
range from the delivery of high quality digital voice services,
through to the ‘always-on’ high-capacity data services enabled by
GPRS, EDGE and the third generation multimedia services of 3GSM*.
GSM–The
Wireless Evolution, leads the way with a clear path into the
future, which is designed to drive future subscriber growth
through the introduction of new and innovative
voice and data services. |
